Biology courses at Coventry?
I have just finished my A-Levels and I am taking a gap year in which I will apply to University, I am very happy with the idea of Coventry and it is within my range. I know roughly the career I want to be involved in, Biology research with an emphasis on Biomedical, but I am open to change. Can anyone tell me about these courses they offer, if anyone has studied/is studying them there then that would be great, or at least tell me about the course itself, not necessarily at Coventry:Biological and Forensic Science

I am unsure about which one would be the better option because they have the same requirements, and seem like they offer the same course structure, aside from the Forensic Science which is the least likely one.
Any help and I would be very grateful. =)
I am going to the open day on the 23rd September and I will find out everything from them.

i had a rough start in my freshman year withdrawing mid semester in the spring because i got very sick.

Help with University choice!?
Hey,I'm from Melbourne, Australia and really need some help about what course to take when I finish school. I am currently in Year 12. I definitely want something animal related. Ever since I was tiny I wanted to be a vet but now realize that being a vet doesn't necessarily allow you to work HANDS ON with animals. I'm more interested in being with the animal/animals themselves rather than them being sedated.
For the past year I've been planning to undertake the Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Biosciences at LaTrobe, but a lot of comments I have read say that this course leads more into animal RESEARCH and again not physical things with the animals.
If anyone is from around here and has any suggestions about what courses/universities I would GREATLY appreciate it!
Thanks in advance!

Want to do a Bach of Science. Are the units for Biology, Physics, Chemistry etc hard? Will I fail?!?
I am wanting to do a Bachelor of Science at either Melbourne Uni or La Trobe Uni, but I will have to apply as mature age, as im 23 and had poor grades in high school (didnt care much at the time, and didnt think id need good scores at the time and thought I wouldnt want to goto uni), Im pretty crap with maths but can learn I guess. So anyway, I am looking to do a major in either Marine Biology or Zoology, most likely Zoology, but I am wondering, with the other units you have to do, I think you must do something like either a Biology, Physics or Chem unit, and I was wondering how hard are they?
Also I think they have Zoology in 'Bach of Animal and Veterinary Biosciences' and 'Biological Sciences', would one of those be easier for me than Science, or would the units be pretty much the same? Can you choose your units, or if you want to major in something, are the units set?
I know applying for an undergraduate/3 year degree at 24 will be a bit late, but im going to see if I get in anyway, but if I do I wonder how hard is it going to be? If the units are hard, will I fail the exams?
Im not very good at writing so im not sure how good I would be with all these exams. I just want to learn about animals and dont care for Physics or Chemistry... but I guess ill have to do one of them at some point.
Also has anyone ever done a STAT (either multiple choice or written) test and what were the questions like? Applying as mature age, I have to apply through VTAC and I will have to do a STAT test, and possibly a maths test (do you know if the maths test will be hard, what kind of questions and problems will it have etc?)
Ok so obviously im quite scared I wont even get into uni, but if I do will I find it too hard and not understand what im doing?
Please help me, im a little lost and wondering what to do! :(
***Would like as many responses as possible please***
Thanks :)
Chemistry is needed for almost every Bachelor program with Zoology...
How hard is it? I didnt take Maths in year 11 or 12, and apparently Algebra is a big part of Chemistry. Will I be ok with these...? I am scared out of my mind right now :(

LOW enter and bad GPA? Never been/Want to go to Uni. Over 24. Melbourne. Applying as mature age?
Im thinking of going to uni now, and want to do an undergradute involving either Zoology or Marine studies. Ive always love animals, and have a passion for extreme weather events (tornadoes, cyclones, electrical storms etc) and also photography. The Uni's I was looking as were University of Melbourne, and possibly La Trobe. I was looking at Deakin but their Zoology major is in Geelong.
Melb Uni would be best but im not sure if I would even be considered for any of them.
I think all 3 would look at my GPA (which I think is ALL my academic records) and I have an extremely low enter, less than 35. In year 11 and 12 I didnt care much for having an enter score, as I didnt want or thought id need to goto uni after school anyway (I didnt know what I wanted to do yet). So I got quite a bad score as you can see. So will I even be considered (as mature age) with such a crap score? I did do English and Biology so that may count, even if I sucked lol?
Since then I have done some short computer courses, and this year have just completed 2 short courses in animal related fields, and later in the year will be doing a work experience 'aquarist for a week' type thing at Melbourne Aquarium.
Ive had 2 jobs which have nothing to do with animals/marine science, and my last work experience was in year 9 at a farm for a week.
So considering my extremely poor GPA, would I even be considered to do a 'Bachelor of Science' with a major in either Zoology or Marine Biology? I have a STRONG interest in sharks, so if I cant do a Marine related major, would Zoology still be ok?
Would doing a STAT (even if not needed) help? Some Uni's require the multiple choice AND the written stat. Which is bad because im not very well written and would prefer just the multiple choice.
So what would I like to do in the future: well working with sharks in Victoria isnt the easiest thing to do as there's not much choice really. I guess working at CSIRO doing research would be great still. But my work doesnt have to be with sharks, I love most animals, so I guess a Bachelor could get me into a zoo aswell?
Please let me know what you think I should/could do at this point. I think there may be open days at the Uni's soon so I could go and check them out anyway? I have pretty much no idea how things work at uni, credits points and all that, how many days a week you'll be at the campus etc (is it ALOT of work and study, can I still do my casual job?), im a newbie and a BIT lost lol, so help me if you can hehe :)
Any other info at ALL is much much appreciated!
(Campus MUST be in Melbourne, not elsewhere in Vic like Warnambool or Albury etc.

I'm studying molecular biology at uni, what masters degree can i do?
I'm starting university in september, studying molecular biology, and i'm a bit stuck as the course isn't as human oriented as i expected, especially the paper i will have to deliver in my 3rd year which is of great importance. It is all focused more on plant and animal genetics rather than human, which would have interested me more. So as it's too late for me to change uni, can i do something like cancer genetics in humans or anything human related for my masters degree?Or do you think i should change to biomed asap, as the first year is the same for all biosciences, would that give me more options?

I realize this is a very involved question demanding evidentiary support from a LOT of different bioscience and geoscience avenues. . . but I'm interested only in the immediate effects on the crust of the earth and those species fortunate enough to still be hosted there.Once the earth stops recycling surface area, what is going to happen? Particularly I'm interested in answers that do not try to address other serious global issues like global warming and carbon concentration, I'm just looking for a general idea of what people think that world might resemble.

How to find the first internship in college?
Hello, I am currently a sophomore biological science major and trying to find an internship as a lab assistant in the bioscience field. I have tried to submit my resume and cover letter to some professors or laboratory research company but usually some of them say "We are looking for a candidate with a stronger scientific" background. Thus, they mean that I need to have some research experience before they let me in. However, where do I get my first research experience where almost every one of them "require" some previous knowledge or experience when I can't seem to get "any"? Because I have no prior lab experience except when I took one year of gen. chem, one year of physics, and one quarter of ochem lab. I have finished taking 1 year of gen. chem(with labs), 1 year of physics(with labs), one quarter of organic chemistry, one quarter of biology. Right now, I am currently taking another quarter of biology(now with lab), another quarter of organic chemistry, and another quarter of organic chemistry lab. How should I emphasize these skills in my resume when I know most ppl don't really list skills learned from classes in their resumes under "experience" but let the professor or company know I have those skills? How should I emphasize those skills in my cover letter?Furthermore, I have tried to email some professors looking for a internship position but have received no response, what happen then? What should I say in the email so they might be at least willingly to give me a position(if they have one), or at least respond back?

How do you guys feel about IVOB? Penny stock now? But....?
But they just hit the news!INVO Bioscience, Inc. (OTCBB: IVOB), a medical device company focused on treatment options for patients diagnosed with infertility, announces that the US National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) has approved a 100 patient study being conducted by Galaxy IVF in three INVO centers in Pakistan. The purpose of the study is to evaluate a low cost stimulation protocol combined with INVO to make an IVF affordable procedure available across the large infertile/sub-fertile population. The study will use a minimum ovarian stimulation protocol with the primary endpoint being number of follicles obtained and the fertilization rate. The secondary endpoints will be pregnancy rate and cost of treatment.
Recruitment has begun for the study and Dr. Ranoux will be attending the first INVO cycles at each of the clinical sites.
Galaxy IVF has discontinued the original study started in the IVF center in Lahore because of major protocol violations by the site. The new study will be performed in INVO centers that have been trained and have already performed INVO cycles per the protocols outlined in the INVOcell Instructions for Use.
This additional data will support the widespread acceptance of the INVO in the Middle East.

For my AS-level biology coursework im studying the method of the experiment, could somebody explain in simple terms what the below means and what is been done? thankyou very much.Staining and quantification of retinal vasculature. Retinas were harvested at various time points and fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde (PFA) and methanol followed by blocking in 50% FBS/20% normal goat serum for 1 hour at room temperature. To stain retinal vasculature, retinas were incubated with anti-CD31 (BD Biosciences — Pharmingen) and anti-CIV (Chemicon International) Ab’s followed by Alexa 488– or 594–conjugated secondary Ab’s (Invitrogen Corp.). The retinas were laid flat with radial relaxing incisions to obtain a whole-mount preparation. Images of vasculature in intermediate or deep retinal vascular plexuses (21) were obtained using a Radiance MP2100 confocal microscope and LaserSharp software (Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc.). For quantification of vasculature, four independent fields (900 μm × 900 μm) were chosen randomly from the midportion of the intermediate or deep vascular layer, and the total length of vasculature was measured using LaserPix analyzing software (Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc.). The total lengths of these four fields in the same plexus were used for further analysis.

Creationists: who is your most educated and highest-achieving champion in the biosciences?
Michael Behe isn't it? The guy that accepts common descent with humans and chimpanzees?Or don't you have a bunch of God-fearing engineers and astronomers that like to be counted? Do they do research in the biosciences?

Which UK university has the lowest entry requirements for Psychology?
I'm currently looking into as many universities as possible, since I'll be studying Psychology as a first year undergraduate at university for the first time next year.I'm just wondering if anyone knows which universities have the lowest entry requirements for Psychology? Do ANY universities require anything around BBB, or BBC for a Psychology subject?
I'm not really interested in very scientific Psychology courses - for example, Psychology & Biosciences. I'm also not that interested in Psychology and Philosophy, but something like Psychology and Clinical Psychology would be perfect =)
Thanks in advance for your help

Pytanie #50:
Why is Evolution is more than Theory.?
Evolution is a process that has always gone on in the history of the earth and can be doubted only by those who are ignorant of the evidence or are resistant to evidence, owing to emotional blocks or to plain bigotry. By contrast, the mechanisms that bring evolution about certainly need study and clarification. There are no alternatives to evolution in history that can withstand critical examination. Yet we are constantly learning new and important facts about evolutionary mechanisms.Evolution is fact and theory there are things we know to be true and things we can only infer from the data collected.
The beauty of it all is Evolution even though it's understanding incomplete still has more facts to back it up than creationism.
Why would anyone be against Facts? What proof do we have for Creationism?

Calling the theory of evolution "only a theory" is, strictly speaking, true, but the idea it tries to convey is completely wrong. The argument rests on a confusion between what "theory" means in informal usage and in a scientific context. A theory, in the scientific sense, is "a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena" [Random House American College Dictionary]. The term does not imply tentativeness or lack of certainty. Generally speaking, scientific theories differ from scientific laws only in that laws can be expressed more tersely. Being a theory implies self-consistency, agreement with observations, and usefulness. (Creationism fails to be a theory mainly because of the last point; it makes few or no specific claims about what we would expect to find, so it can't be used for anything. When it does make falsifiable predictions, they prove to be false.)
